SIMPLE PROCESS

Step by step recipe

The secret to a perfect lemon tea lies in water temperature and how you add the citrus. Boiling water can destroy vitamin C, so let it cool slightly before brewing. Mash the lemon with a spoon right in the cup to release maximum juice and essential oils. Follow our steps for the perfect cup.

Boil the water
Step 1

Boil the water

Pour 250 ml (about 1 cup) of water into a kettle and bring to a boil. Let it cool to the right temperature (90–95°C for black tea).

Steep the tea
Step 2

Steep the tea

Put 5 g (about 1 teaspoon) of tea leaves into a cup or teapot, pour hot water, and steep for 3–5 minutes. Don't oversteep to avoid bitterness.

Prepare the lemon
Step 3

Prepare the lemon

Slice 15 g (about a thick slice) of lemon. If you like it tangier, squeeze half a lemon for juice.

Add lemon and sweetener
Step 4

Add lemon and sweetener

Place the lemon slice into the tea cup and mash it well with a spoon to release juice. Add sweetener (1 g) to taste, stir, and serve.

CHEF'S TIP

Choose quality tea

Loose-leaf black or green tea gives a richer aroma and smoother taste. Tea bags work too, but choose those without additives.

Use the right water temperature

For black tea, use 90–95°C water; for green tea, 75–80°C. Too hot water makes the tea bitter and destroys lemon nutrients.

Mash the lemon well

To get more juice and oils, place the lemon slice in the cup and press it with a spoon. This makes the flavor brighter and fuller.

Add sweetener to taste

Add sweetener after the tea cools slightly so it dissolves evenly. If using honey, add it to warm, not hot, tea.

SUBSTITUTIONS

Add your taste

  • Lime or orange instead of lemon For variety, use lime or orange – they bring new flavors and aromas.
  • Honey instead of sweetener Honey complements lemon tea perfectly, adding mild sweetness and health benefits. Add to tea cooled to about 40°C.
  • Add ginger for a kick A few thin slices of fresh ginger make the tea warming and boost immunity.
  • With mint or lemon balm Fresh mint or lemon balm adds a refreshing note, perfect for summer days.

HOW TO STORE

How to store lemon tea

Lemon tea is best enjoyed fresh – within 2–3 hours it loses aroma and benefits. If needed, cooled tea can be stored in the fridge in a sealed container for up to 12 hours. Reheat gently without boiling. Not recommended for freezing.
