SIMPLE PROCESS
Step by step recipe
For juicy cabbage rolls that hold together, prep the cabbage properly: after blanching, squeeze it well to remove excess water. Adding onion, garlic, and herbs makes the mince more aromatic. Bake at high heat for 20 minutes — enough to cook through and create a crispy top.

Prep the Cabbage
Shred the cabbage thinly. Boil in salted water for 5–7 minutes until softened. Drain in a colander, let the water drip off, then cool in a bowl.

Make the Mince
In a large bowl, combine the chicken mince, cabbage, eggs, minced garlic, chopped herbs, and onion (if using). Season with salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly until smooth.

Shape the Rolls
Wet your hands with cold water and form the mince into oval or round patties, about 1 inch thick. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Bake
Preheat the oven to 250°C (480°F). Bake for 20 minutes until golden and cooked through.

Serve
Transfer to a plate and serve hot with sour cream or tomato sauce. Enjoy!
CHEF'S TIP
Don't Overcook the Cabbage
Boil the shredded cabbage for 5–7 minutes until soft but still with some bite. Drain well in a colander and let the excess water drip off.
Add Onion for Juiciness
Finely chopped onion, added raw or lightly sautéed, gives the patties extra moisture and a subtle sweetness.
Use Wet Hands
Wet your hands with cold water when shaping the patties — the mince won't stick, and the rolls will be neat and uniform.
Serve with Sour Cream
These lazy cabbage rolls pair perfectly with sour cream or a yogurt-based sauce. You can also top them with tomato sauce for extra flavor.
SUBSTITUTIONS
Add your taste
- With Beef or Mixed Mince Replace chicken with beef or a pork-beef blend — the rolls become richer and more savory. Increase baking time to 25–30 minutes.
- Add Rice Mix 100g of cooked rice into the mince for a heartier version that's closer to classic cabbage rolls.
- With Tomato Sauce Before baking, pour tomato sauce (tomato paste mixed with water and spices) over the rolls for a juicier result.
- Cook in a Slow Cooker Place the rolls in a slow cooker, add a little water or sauce, and cook on 'Stew' for 40–45 minutes.
HOW TO STORE
How to Store Lazy Chicken Cabbage Rolls
Cool the rolls to room temperature, then store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 160°C (320°F) for 10–15 minutes or in the microwave. Freeze uncooked rolls on a baking sheet, then transfer to a bag. Thaw in the fridge and bake as usual.
